TGIF! This has been way too long of a week for me. So, I thought some humor was in order! Yesterday I read Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin's newest story about Farmer Brown and his animals, and I roared with laughter! :) They have written and illustrated many adventures featuring Farmer Brown and his animals. The first book in this series was Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type. What I love about their book series is that it is lighthearted and funny, while at the same time using some pretty advanced vocabulary words at times. In many of the books, Farmer Brown has a duck who plots against the farmer's plans.
In their newest book, Thump, Quack, Moo: A Whacky Adventure(Atheneum Books for Young Readers,New York, 2008), Farmer Brown works hard to make a fabulous corn maze. He gets all of the animals involved. Duck, however, has his own ideas about how the corn maze should look...
I don't want to ruin the ending, so I won't tell you more. This book is just pure fun and laughs for you and your child! However, if you end up liking the book as well as my kids and I already do, you may be reading it a few times. If so, in future re-readings, be sure to stop during your reading and discuss any of the following words that your child may not be familiar with. This book offers much new vocabulary for many of it's young readers:
- Statue of Liberty
- organic
- correspondence course
- meteorology
- humidity
- advisory
- night-vision goggles
- preparations
- barometric pressure
- masterpiece
- GERONIMO!
Have a great Friday! If you would like a more detailed description of this book, check out the BooksForKidsBlog at the following link:
